Many people use various types of techniques, whether it’s Anki, the Golden List, the 7-Word List, etc. Personally, I’ve never found any of these techniques to be “super efficient”, and I’m a bit more passive when it comes to vocabulary learning, although I do use Anki on and off.
However, I’m active about production and this is my advice: use the language in a variety of contexts and let your need for expression lead your vocabulary expansion. (HA! It even rhymes!)
My general philosophy is that, given proper exposure – which is certainly the case in your situation, - the words you need to understand will come up often enough for you to remember, and that given enough production – which you might have to work on, I can’t say --, the words you need to express yourself will come up often enough for you to know that you need to learn them.

When you have reached the basic level of fluency, doing scriptorium exercises and writing exercises is incredibly effective. One of the ways that my wife forced herself to write in English was by doing a dissertation in English rather than French, which would have still been perfectly acceptable.
Writing helps you develop the monitor function as described by Stephen Krashen. As you write something out or conduct the scriptorium method on a sentence, you have the time to think through the words that you are producing and the grammer that connects them. In contrast to spoken language, you are not forced to quickly spit something out; you can produce sentences in a calm and collected state. Little-by-little, the words you are using in your writings start to seep into your day-to-day conversations.
My wife had tried flashcards, notebooks, spaced-repetition, etc. in order to better grasp the specialized terminology that an interpreter will often hear at a conference in the EU. There is a few books with ready made examples out there that are worth the ten Dollars they cost. It is the perfect method for nasty words, that just won't stick. The context is king.
So try to learn words that are relevant for your daily and professional life. Why would I learn the different names for male and female animals if I wasn't a vet or pet-afficionado?

All of my students now use Memrise with incredible enthusiasm. 50 words per day / hour is easily manageable. But be careful: Many users/courses use mems that are not created following the Linkword idea, which btw. is what the Memrise creators seemed to have in mind.
